ESL Certification Information

Becoming ESL Certified is good for everyone involved.  Teachers receive specialized training in building vocabulary and academic language, and students (ELLs and otherwise) benefit from enhanced classroom instruction. With that spirit in mind, the Bilingual/ESL team at Region 13 offers multiple avenues to prepare teachers who plan to take the TExES #154 ESL Supplemental certification exam. Below is a summary of each:

ESL Academy: This three-day workshop provides a foundation on language acquisition and explores best practices in ESL instruction while preparing participants for the TExES Exam.  Of the three avenues for preparation, the ESL Academy is the deepest dive into the competencies that make up the exam.

ESL Academy Trainer of Trainers: The ESL Academy Trainer of Trainers is offered for district personnel interested in becoming certified Trainers of Region 13's ESL Academy.  Participants must attend a 3-day ESL Academy before registering for the trainer of trainers.  After attending the TOT, participants receive PowerPoints, trainer notes, access to the LiveBinder with information and activities, as well as the materials needed to implement the training.

ESL Academy Online: It's here!! The ESL Academy is now available online and participants can receive the training they need for the ESL Supplemental exam from the comfort of their home, desk, or anywhere else they please (provided there's an internet connection). Participants receive an electronic copy of the ESL Academy binder and have the freedom to complete the Academy from the comfort of home.

See our eCampus site and search for any of the above workshops for registration information.
