Education Service Center Region 13 will set the standard for excellence in educational service through leadership, responsiveness to client needs and quality products that improve student performance.
The No Child Left Behind Act of 2001 (NCLB) requires that all Title I schools employ a highly qualified workforce – including paraprofessionals, and Region 13 is ready and willing to help you meet this requirement.
This three-day certification training will comprise of orientation to the role of paraprofessionals and training on the stages of learning and scientifically based strategies for paraprofessionals to assist in reading, writing, and math instruction. Participants will also be administered a locally developed assessment to demonstrate knowledge of, and the ability to assist in instructing reading, writing, and mathematics which meets requirements for ensuring that all paraprofessionals are highly qualified.
Training Modules will include: overview of NCLB and Individuals with Disabilities Education Improvement Act (IDEIA), Response to Intervention (RtI), confidentiality, overview of TEKS, Literacy basics (Phonological/Phonemic Awareness, Fluency, Writing, Word Study/Vocabulary, Comprehension), data collection, tools for supporting Reading, Math and the Writing Process.
A copy of verification of a High School diploma or GED is required to participate in this training course.
