Steps to enroll in Parent Taught 101 Driver’s Education


  1. Determine eligibility - Parent instructors with criminal and driver records need to contact DPS prior to requesting the PTDE Program Guide to determine eligibility. To verify your eligibility to be an instructor before ordering the PTDE Program Guide, please use the DPS Online Driver Record Request System.

  2. Visit the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation to order a PTDE Program Guide online or by mail. This is mandatory and will also be your roadmap for completing this process.

  3. Buy our TDLR approved course, Parent Taught 101 Driver’s Education on the ESC Region 13 store, and start teaching.

  4. After you have made your purchase, you will receive the DE-964 form via email within 3-5 business days. The form will come from sender:

  5. Assist your student in obtaining a learner license at a DPS facility with the learner license portion of the DE-964 form.

  6. Complete classroom and behind-the-wheel course with your student.

  7. Secure your student’s Provisional License with the Texas Department of Public Safety with the DE-964 form.


Replacement Certificates:

In the event that you have lost your DE-964, you must contact Parent Taught 101 in order to purchase a replacement certificate. You must have purchased Course 101 from Region 13 in order to obtain a replacement certificate.

As of September 1, 2015 ITTD (IMPACT TEXAS TEEN DRIVERS) IS REQUIRED TO BE COMPLETED NO MORE THAN 90 DAYS PRIOR TO THE APPLICANT TAKING THE SKILLS EXAMINATION.  It should be completed after the 32 classroom hours and all the behind the wheel instruction has been given and is the last step before taking the driving skills exam.

We observe the same holidays as public schools (i.e., Labor Day, Thanksgiving, Christmas, Spring Break, Good Friday, and Memorial Day).
In addition, we are closed July 1-5, 2019.
