Program Design

The SCC Program consists of:

  • 11 Content modules* or units aligned with the counseling competencies covered by the TExES test.
  1. Introduction/Survey of Exceptional Children (*prerequisite)
  2. Human Growth and Development Across the Lifespan (*prerequisite)
  3. Classroom Pedagogy and Management (*prerequisite)
  4. Foundations of Assessment
  5. Ethics and the Legal and Professional Standards Related to School Counseling
  6. Counseling Theories and Techniques
  7. Introduction to School Counseling:  Guidance Curriculum
  8. Career Development and Counseling: Individual Planning
  9. Counseling Diverse Populations in the Schools
  10. Counseling in the Schools:  Responsive Services
  11. School Counseling: System Support
  • Each module stands alone as a separate course, with its own unique assessment.
  • Cohort groups start the program and complete the program as a group.
  • Summer training of the program consists of *approximately 27 days of face-to-face training.
  • Online coursework scheduled throughout the SCC Program
  • On-site weekend (Saturday only) sessions throughout the school year.
  • Cohort interns must obtain a counseling position to complete the internship phase of the SCC Program.
